I loved the simplicity of this one with the red door. I've dreamed of owning a home with a red door but unfortunately that won't be happening because it would require painting the entire house. I love the black flower pots too.
We've been working on our front yard to add some much needed curb appeal and we are in the process of growing some new grass. We have some plans for the near future to built a new flower bed and plant some hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and some ground cover. We also have some shrubs that need to be dug up and replaced. I'll share with you those before and after's so stay tuned.
We got into the city early and decided to go for some lunch before heading into the stadium. David had an idea of where he wanted to eat and he picked the restaurant based on a show he saw on the Food Network - Man vs. Food - I should have known. :)
We had a couple of cold brews and then the sandwiches for lunch which turned out to me the size of head, and I'm not kidding! The sandwich is made with the meat and cheese of your choice and then pile of french fries and then some cole slaw. One look at the sandwich and David came up with his game plan to tackle this sandwich - just dive right in and that he did!
After we finally finished lunch and were able to physically move again, we headed to the ball park for an afternoon of baseball fun.
I put my photography skills to use and look at the picture of the 2nd home run of the game. Imagine how close I could have gotten if I had a telephoto lens (hint, hint honey).

I decided to go with an upholstered headboard and when I saw the nail head trim detail on Freckles Chick's headboard, it was love at first sight. I've been drooling over many similar headboards at some of the nicer stores but they were well outside of our price range - a girl can dream though, right? You can find them at Restoration Hardware (mucho dinero), Williams Sonoma (muy mucho dinero), and even Crate and Barrel (muy muy much dinero) but they cost over a $1,000 for a king size! The hubby laughed but when I showed him I could do it myself for under a $100 bucks he was like wow - it looks like a bed at a high end hotel, I knew he loved it as much as I did.

First I had to take some measurements and decided to go with a headboard size of 77" x 36" and decided to head to Calico Corners first to look at fabric and was that ever a trip! They have the most gorgeous fabrics that I have ever seen and some were quite pricey but there were also lots of affordable choices too.
Next I had to purchase the rest of the supplies and here's a breakdown:
- 3 yards of Linen fabric from Calico Corners - $22.47 (it was 50% off - whoo hoo)
- 3 yards of Quilter's batting - $13.31
- Nail head trim - $14.99
- Plywood 1/2" thick - $17.21 (Home Depot cut it for me for free)
- Stapler and staples - $24.78
- Grand Total = $92.76
When it comes to the corners, just wrap it like a present and continue stapling away. Are you getting tired yet?......my hand sure was!

The problem was that the plastic near the edge of the barrel is VERY thick and wouldn't cut easily which is why you want to cut about 1 inch in from the edge (it was in the instructions but - well let's just say the hubby likes to jump in and not read). Getting the top off was quite the victory and we celebrated by eating dinner and putting the project to rest for the night.
Last but not least, we had to cut the gutter and direct it to drain into our lovely barrel.
It started raining again tonight so I ran outside with a flashlight to look at the rain barrel in action and discovered that it's already plump full and the overflow is in action too. Did you know that a 1000 sq ft roof yields 600 gallons per inch of rain and what better way to conserve water than to install a rain barrel at your house. Have we inspired you to install one? We sure hope so, your plants and mother earth will thank you.
